I should be embarrassed

But I'm not. And you know why? Because I'm giving myself an 'A' for effort.

This is truly a case of, "Why didn't mind turn out like hers?" and the only conciliatory factor is that it's cake. Cake, crumbled and mixed with frosting. Cake, crumbled and mixed with frosting, and dipped in chocolate. Honestly, when all is said and done, no one will truly care that my balls looked odd... they'll be too high on sugar to remember or care.

According to The Pioneer Woman, my cake balls coulda, shoulda looked like this. Yes, mama needed a glass of wine (or two) to get through this project.

And this is how they actually turned out. Scary looking, just not in the way I intended.

With their ghoulish faces on, they are more scary in the way that I did intend.

And considering the average age of the younger audience for whom these have been made is about two years old, I'm totally fine with the end result. However, I'm still not convinced that I'm very crafty... and again, I'm fine with that.
